Week 7 Let Them Preach

This Sunday was unethical for me.

I missed my Dallas Cowboys play for the first time in years for my little brother’s birthday at Island Park in Winfield, Kansas. Could you guess what I was doing at the party?

I was draining the battery on my Evo Shift with my Yahoo! Sportacular app, refreshing the Cowboys’ gamecast endlessly, as an addictive fan would.

Who did I see running wild, breaking records, and breaking Twitter? Not Emmitt Smith, not Tony Dorsett; it was DeMarco Murray who had one of the most historic days in Cowboys’ history (but still not as good as my beloved Miles Austin in his first NFL start). Third round pick, former Oklahoma Sooner, and also the third-string running back before the start of this game.

All of which happened while I was at Island Park.

That was just a needle in a haystack in comparison to the rest of the NFL in week seven, however, I missed all of the afternoon games, so I am depending on Sports Center and box scores to do four of these games. In the noon games, well, it wasn’t pretty. Probably one of the most boring/most odd/hectic line up of games in the history (nine years) of me watching NFL football. But, that’s where I come in. To evaluate and pick apart what happened on Sunday in each and every game. Let’s get the bus rollin’.

Seattle Seahawks @ Cleveland Browns
1. This was the most awful, boring, horrific game that I have ever seen. If you weren't aware, the final score was 6-3 in the Browns' favor. Obviously, in a 6-3 game, no fantasy owners gained from this matchup.

2. Who knew that missing Tavaris Jackson would hurt the Seahawks this much? Three points!? Are you serious? There is no way Charlie Whitehurst deserves this job, and he shouldn't even be in the debate for it.

3. Montario Hardesty is no Peyton Hillis, that is for certain. Hardesty went just 33 for 95 and it was absolutely terrible. I know the Seahawks have a very good run defense (best in yards per carry allowed, as I have preached), but with 33 touches, I wouldn't of been surprised if Peyton Hillis (if healthy) would of ran for 150 yards and a touchdown. Very discouraging performance from Hardesty here, and just a discouraging game overall.

Atlanta Falcons @ Detroit Lions
1. Michael Turner is the center of this offense right now. Matt Ryan is, simply, not playing good football right now. He isn't reading defenses well, and that's about all there is to it. I'm not sure if he is struggling to find open receivers, but I doubt it since he is still making smart decisions. But it seems to me like he just isn't seeing the defense as it should be seen, and that's a problem.

2. We all knew that sooner or later the Lions' weren't going to be able to just lean on Calvin Johnson to win the game for them, and that seems to be the problem. Their offense, other than Calvin Johnson, has struggled in the last two games. In the first five games of the season, all of which were wins, the Lions averaged 379.6 yards per game; in the two games following, both of which were losses, they have averaged just 286.5 yards per game. See a trend here? Their offense is falling off, and they need to get their mojo back.

 3. The Falcons are one of the most inconsistent, non-Vegas-friendly team in America. So first, they come out with a loss at Soldier Field, not too surprising, right? Then a win at home against "Dream Team" Philadelphia; most spectators think that they can win this game at home. Then they score just 13 points in a loss to Buccaneers (who have been quite streaky themselves) and then  a mere win at Seattle. After being derailed in Green Bay, the team is back on track with two straight wins, but here's the question. Can the Falcons return to "elite" status, where they were last year? It will be an ultimate test of prestige in the Superdome in week 10, and what a game that should be.

Houston Texans @ Tennessee Titans
1. Arian Foster? Top three running back? He played 48 snaps (according to Pro Football Focus) for this team that was without their star wide receiver, Andre Johnson, and he touched the ball 30 times. That is, an unheard of, 62.5 percent. Does this team lean on Arian Foster?  You bet they do, and for god reason.

2. Chris Johnson learned his lesson, and he learned it the hard way: Don't hold out. He was 10 for 18 in this game, and it might of been his worst game yet. He has averaged just 2.9 yards per carry thus far in 2011, and in comparison to his previous years, that is just ridiculous. In 2010, Johnson ran for 4.3 yards per carry and in 2009 (his 2,000 yard season) he averaged 5.6 yards per carry. Do you see what I see? It isn't just this year; Johnson fell off last year, and now he is just cliff diving. This is why I wouldn't of drafted Chris Johnson in the top four picks this year.

3. 41-7. The final score of what was supposed to be a divisional "battle". This game was more one-sided (or one player with Arian Foster), than almost (Saints, 62-7) any other game. I think we know who has the edge in the division right now: The Houston Texans.

Chicago Bears @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
1. Matt Forte is...A) Extremely talented; B) The only reason Bears win football games; C) Underpaid; D) A top five NFL running back; E) All of the above? Well, if you guessed E then you were right. Forte has been dominate when he gets the touches, and in this game he just confirmed that. He touched the ball 27 times (25 carries, two receptions) and had 173 yards. Of course, it wouldn't of been complete without a touchdown to go along with all of that. Top five fantasy running back, and top five real life running back.

2. I have come to my consensus that no Bears' pass catches is worth owning. There are guys with much more upside that can, and will, do more for your team than any Roy Williams, Earl Bennett, Johnny Knox, or Dane Sanzenbacher is going to do for you. You would be better off just searching around for a different guy to have hang around on your bench.

3. Seconds after Earnest Graham went down in this one (before I knew that it would end his season and quite possibly career), I said to myself, " Kregg Lumpkin is going to get his chance. This is his break." Well, not so much. If you want to pick somebody off of waivers this week, this is not your guy. Not even in a 20 team league, that's how bad he was. Stay AWAY!

San Diego Chargers @ New York Jets

1. Although he is not completely healthy yet (according to ESPN's Stephania Bell), the break that he took is going to help him tremendously in the long run. That particular bone in his foot has been bothersome for a over a year now, and he said the pain feels just about as good as ever after the game on Sunday. It's going to help Rivers out a ton (A TON) because he finally has that red zone target that he can throw to in the end zone instead of just pounding the ball on the ground.

2. If someone is willing to give up a decent amount of "prospects" for Plaxico Burress then you have to jump on it. He is not going to have these type of numbers again, and it was a completely fluke game (only four catches and three were touchdowns). Sell high if you can.

3. Shonn Greene has proven me completely wrong. He can actually produce as a starting running back (even though he was technically the backup in this case) in this league. If the Jets continue to give him 20+ carries per game (which has become a trend in the last three games), then he is going to have relevance, whether any of us like it or not.

Denver Broncos @ Miami Dolphins
1. Tebow is a winner. Always has been, always will be. It was apparent as ever in this game. First, as Adam Schefter tweeted, in all of his years of coaching, one of his teams had never recovered an onside kick? Tebow did. A team has never come back from 15 points or more in under 3:00. Tebow did. All other five quarterbacks making their season debut lost on Sunday, but Tebow? He won. Tebow is a winner, and he will be a for a long time to come.

2. The Dolphins are terrible in every aspect. They can't move the ball, and if Tom Brady was the one throwing the ball in the first three quarters then I wouldn't be surprised if the Broncos put up 40 points. But then again, the Broncos probably wouldn't be 2-4 right now if they had Tom Brady on their team.

3. Champ Bailey is under rated at this point in his career. No one else talked up Champ who was going up against Brandon Marshall, but I did. What happened? Marshall went 6 for 61 and had a worse game than he did against Revis. Don't you ever underestimate a Champ.

Washington Redskins @ Carolina Panthers
1. This is bold, and I think that I might be crazy for saying this, but I think Fred Davis might be an elite fantasy tight end for the rest of the season. I told you it would sound crazy, and it probably does right now. But, he is going to have a struggling quarterback for the rest of the season, which is usually a plus for tight ends (for Davis it has been). Besides that, their entire team is banged up and Cooley was put on injured reserve! Davis is a great candidate to fill that "TE" spot on your roster, and I don't think it is crazy to say that he is a top five tight end for the rest of the season in 2011.

2. Cam Newton to Steve Smith. We have heard it 39 times during the game this year, and hundreds more times on the radio and the television. These two have something special, and as long as Smith stays in the league, it is going to stay that way. Smith is the building blocks of Cam Newton's success in the NFL thus far. Smith was seven for 143 in this game, and we're only going to see more where this came from.

3. Johnathan Stewart finally got more carries, and he didn't just let them go to waste. He found the endzone in this game (14 carries for 68 yards and a touchdown), while DeAngelo Williams averaged just 3.5 yards per carry on the ten carries that he got. I know that I can't grant Stewart fantasy points, or put him in the right situation, but if he does get in that right situation where he is a lead back on an above-par team, then he will finish top ten in the league in rushing, and I don't doubt it one bit. He has the speed, pass-catching ability, vision, and good judgement that an NFL back needs. Look for him to be in positive places somewhere in the near future.

Kansas City Chiefs @ Oakland Raiders
1.Don't just look at the score and assume that the Chiefs dominated this game, because they didn't. They played some really bad football. Cassel completed just 50 percent of his passes to go along with his two interceptions without a touchdown. The Chiefs did what they had to do, but they still looked awful, Cassel especially.

2. The whole "feature back" thing for Jackie Battle didn't quite workout. He got 15-20 carries like I expected from him (16), but his counterparts (McCluster and Thomas Jones) had a combined 19 carries and to make it all worse, LeRon McClain vultured a touchdown and then Javier Arenas stole a touchdown. Just an upsetting game for me, as a Battle believer and owner.

3. The Raiders want to make Darrius Heyward-Bey a part of this offense, and they have made that loud and clear for fantasy owners to hear. With 80 yards or more in four straight games, you have to believe in this guy (not to toot my own horn, but I believed in him after week one). DHB had three more catches than any other pass catcher with five receptions and he led the team in targets, to go along with nearly half of the teams receiving yardage. If Heyward-Bey is not owned then you need to get him on your squad, but I would imagine that he is owned in most places.

Pittsburgh Steelers @ Arizona Cardinals
1. After this game, I didn't think that the Steelers had a chance in this division despite the win. But then I saw the Ravens play on Monday Night and boy did that upset me (more later). Their offensive line looks bad, they can't run the ball, and Ben is barely getting rid of the ball on time; that's just on offense. I know a lot of  these things are a product of injuries, but a team has to overcome those injuries if they are going to win football games.

2. Even if stats say that the Cardinals aren't one of the worst in the NFL in pass defense, they are in the bottom five in my books. Ben Roethlisberger torched them for 361 yards and three touchdowns without forcing a single turnover. That's bad defense, I don't care what statistics say.

3. Early Doucet, although Kolb is struggling and he is the second option on this team, is a great pickup that no one is really talking about much. Kolb continues to look for him and he has put up nine fantasy points in the past two games, and he has been the top slot guy for the Cardinals. If he keeps this up then he is a good flex option each and every week.

St.Louis Rams @ Dallas Cowboys
1. I could sit here and talk about DeMarco Murray all day. I watched the game film, and after watching it, I realized that I have never seen the offensive line block like they did for Murray on Sunday against the Rams. Not only that, but Murray has great vision and speed so he can find the hole and cut to it quick. Once he gets through that hole, he is physical and can break tackles too. Great fantasy pikcup, but unless he does something close to this again, I'm not sure he is ever going to get more carries than Felix Jones (when healthy).

2. Brandon Lloyd is clearly ready to play for the St.Louis Rams and already knows the system well. AJ Feeley didn't hit him (who would of thought) but he was the most used pass catcher in this offense. Despite the lackluster play from Feeley, Lloyd still caught six passes on twelve targets (which was six more targets than anyone else). I'm very excited to see what Lloyd and Bradford can do when Bradford returns from injury

3. Jason Witten is probably the most dependable target in the planet, but, I already knew that, so, let's move along.

Green Bay Packers  @ Minnesota Vikings
1. Greg Jennings is one of the safest wide receiver plays in terms of consistency, and who isn't consistent with the best quarterback in the NFL throwing you the ball. He has 100+ yards in three of his last five games and he has three touchdowns in those games. Sounds like a safe play to me.

2. If Rodgers wasn't the favorite for NFL Most Valuable Player then he sure is after a  perfect 158.3 quarterback rating against the Vikings.

3. I sitll don't want to be ANY part of either Packers' running backs; but, if I have to choose one with a gun to my head, I would choose James Starks. He looks better (as I have said all year), even against a stronger, more physical run defense. Feel free to drop Ryan Grant.

Indianapolis Colts @ New Orleans Saints
1. I know it was the Saints against arguably the worst team in the NFL, but 62 to..seven!? Seriously? Imagine being Peyton Manning, sitting on the sideline watching the team that beat you in the Super Bowl destroy you again while you are sitting on the sideline just waiting. Imagine how he must feel. The Colts, without a doubt in my mind, are the worst team in the NFL right now, and I'm not sure if that is going to change this year.

2. Let's change winds and head in the direction of the Saints. I know they were playing the Colts, but sixty-two points! Drew Brees and the Saints have been remarkably, but quietly, very good this year. In fact, I think the Saints could give the Packers their first loss in the Super Dome. That isn't that point though. The point is that this team is somewhat flying under the radar, and I'm not sure they will be noticed until it comes times for the playoffs.

3.Jimmy Graham is easily the best tight end in football right now. He is dominating every team, whether it be Graham himself, or just how good Brees has been. In terms of fantasy value, if I were in a redraft today I think Graham would go in the third round. He is that good. And if you disagree just look at his numbers compared to #2. Rob Gronkowski is number two and he is 27 points (!) behind Jimmy Graham., or over two points per week difference., and Graham is doing this on a consistent basis, unlike Gronkowski.

Baltimore Ravens @ Jacksonville Jaguars
1. ESPN picks only the best games for their Monday Night Football selection; the best ones that will bore you to sleep. Only 351 yards of total offense, from both sides of the football. It was ugly.

2. Jason Hill was, in fact, a sleeper this week. He ran the most pass routes of all the receivers (Mike Sims-Walker and Mike Thomas) beating out Mike Sims-Walker by one route, and he also was second in snaps (for wide receivers) behind only Mike Sims-Walker (56) who had thirteen more than Hill (43).

3. MJD, similar to the Falcons' situation, is the majority of the offense right now. Against one of the best run defenses in the league (Ravens), Maurice Jones-Drew ran the ball 30 times for 105 yards., which was more than half of the total offense. Look for a lot of Mo-Jo Drew in the future.

Thanks for reading. I'll be back next week with the week 8 version of Let Them Preach. Until then, you can check me out on the Fantasy Corral podcast with Bill Riccette. You can also check out my blog for other great articles during the week including my rankings on the rankings page and the injury report. For any questions, be sure to follow me on Twitter! I try to get to all of the questions I get. See you next week!

Week 7 "Go and No" Guys

By:  Zachary Sven Jacobson

So far I've steered you right this season, both with my 71% start/sit accuracy and my one week on FFAdvisor.com's accuracy rankings.  You should all know by now that I love to toot my own horn, so *beep* *beep*.  Anyways, enough of the narcissistic attitude.  You're here to get fantasy football advice.

 Fantasy Go Guys

Tim Tebow v. Dolphins:  It really pains me to do this.  I mean, am one of the few guys in America that doesn't have a Teboner?  Nothing against the man, I'm just not a fan.  That said, he's put up solid running fantasy points this season, and if he does anything in the passing game he could be startable.  This is basically a home game for Tebow, ya' know with Miami celebrating the 2008 Florida Gators.  There may only be two actual Dolphins fans in Sun Life Stadium, but then again, when aren't there?

Greg Little v. Seahawks:  I've been riding this guy since the beginning of the season (don't say it ya' perv), and it seems like it's finally his chance to shine.  Seattle give up 268.5 passing yards per game, and this guy was targeted a lot last week.  Expect more than a Little dose of him this week.

Kellen Winslow v. Bears:  He's had a consistently bad year, but that doesn't mean ol' Jr. can't put up some good numbers against Chicago.  Da' Bears struggle against tight ends, so this is the perfect opportunity for Winslow.

Fantasy No Guys

Mike Thomas v. Ravens:  One touchdown, and average or worse yards every week.  I don't think there's much to say here, especially when the Jags are facing Baltimore.  Sit this guy.
Sidney Rice v. Browns:  After two solid fantasy weeks off an injury, he faltered in week 5.  Cleveland allows the 4th least fantasy points to wide receivers, and the lack of quality quarterbacks in Seattle obviously has a huge effect.  I wouldn't trust him in most weeks.

Season Standings

12 for 17:  71%

Week 7 Injury Report: Strike of the Madden Curse

By: Zach Jacobson

The Madden Curse, it's a thing.  I capitalize it because it's not to be taken lightly.  A little background information?  In the 13 seasons since EA started putting NFL players on the front of Madden football covers, Larry Fitzgerald is the only one not to see a huge decrease in production or a serious injury the following season.  2011's victim is Peyton Hillis...it's like he was doomed to get hurt before the season even started...

The Injuries

Peyton Hillis:  The aforementioned Peyton Hillis that is.  So far his production has been down, he's had strep throat, and now he injures a hamstring (it's real, folks).  He barely played after the second quarter Sunday, and owners should be fully ready to replace him in week 7.  Montario Hardesty is a more than suitable replacement.  You have the green light.

Felix Jones:  Jones needs to take a swig of the Felixir and recover.  He's gonna be killing me these upcoming weeks in the ReclinerQB.com fantasy football league.  After suffering a high ankle sprain, Felix Jones will be out for multiple weeks.  I'd stash both Tashard Choice and DeMarco Murray.  Either could end up being a viable fantasy option.

Jahvid Best:  Second concussion of the year, and what seems like the billionth injury of his short career.  In his career, he's been explosive at best, and awful at worst...an incredibly watered down Barry Sanders.  His week 7 status is up in the air, but with the Ronnie Brown trade falling through I don't see Jerome Harrison doing much.

The Replacements

Good to Go:  Montario Hardesty
Wait and See:  Tashard Choice, DeMarco Murray
Stay AWAY (until further notice):  Jerome Harrison

Week 6 "Go and No" Guys

By: Zach Jacobson

You all miss me last week?  Oh of course not, you had Matt to fill you in.  Feel free to go check how he did in his one week start/sit duties, but knowing his prowess I'm guessing he had most right.  My last week with the coveted (yeah right) "Go and No" Guys article was week 4, where I finished 3 for 5 on player predictions.  Small sample size?  Yes, of course.  But if you are a weekly reader you'd know that I'm adding my percentage over the season.  But enough of this, how about a little of that.

Fantasy Go Guys

Jay Cutler v. Vikings:  Vikings are allowing 270+ passing yards a game in 2011, and lately Jay Cutler loves to play Minnesota.  Due to being a Packer fan (and Cutler sucking), I'm hesitant to start him, but I would barely flinch to plug him in this week.

Marques Colston v. Buccaneers:  Colston had a decent yardage week against Carolina last week, and Tampa Bay is in the lower half of the league in terms of pass defense.  It's true Brees spreads the ball around too much for Colston to be an every week start, but he's a solid go against the Bucs.

Shonn Greene v. Dolphins:  Jets finally got the power running game going last week against the Patriots, and it's not like Miami is outstanding versus the run.  I know there has been some waffling this season about whether to sit or start Greene from week to week, but I think he'll get it together from here on out.

Fantasy No Guys

Matt Schaub v. Ravens:  Baltimore is great against opposing pass games, and Schaub is stuck without Andre Johnson.  You do the math.

Daniel Thomas v. Jets:  Some may be looking to plug Thomas in (after returning from injury) against what seems like a cushiony matchup, but I expect New York to step up in a pivotal game for them.  Rex Ryan won't even be phased by Matt Moore starting at QB for Miami.  Look for the box to be stacked.

Season Standings

8 for 12:  67%

The Stock Report Week 6

by Brady from Ice The Kick
Like us on Facebook

Start off with the weekly recap: Last week I told you I had Buys on Brandon LaFell (had a TD overturned by replay), Reggie Wayne (77 yards), and Daniel Thomas (BYE). Had a HOLD rating on Jeremy Maclin (11.4 fantasy points). And

told you to SELL high on Tolbert (49 total yards), Brandon Marshall (BYE), and Eli Manning, who despite a big week, I still believe you should try to sell high on. My speculative play was good once again as it was Josh Morgan – who had 70 yards – but the Stock Report Curse struck again as Morgan went down with a bad break and was placed on IR.

Buy – Jackie Battle

I was SO CLOSE to making him a Buy or my speculative play last week. I am tempted to show screen shots from all my
leagues showing that I did actual pick him up in 3 out of 4 leagues. I think that Battle is in a position to split carries with Thomas Jones for the time being, and slowly eat carries away from McCluster and the aforementioned Jones.
Battle is a straight line guy, which could bode well for his goal-line potential. I think he is hungry, but does have limited upside. If anyone is dangling him out there for cheap or he is still on the waiver wire, I’d make a play for him and monitor his situation for a bit.

Buy – Joe Flacco

I think Flacco is that kind of QB that is sitting on most teams bench as a high level back up. And frankly, that is about the
level he deserves right now. I think that this Ravens team is going to start playing at a higher level than they have lately, especially on the offensive side of the ball. If you are weak at the QB1 spot, target Flacco from another squad’s bench.

Week 6 Injury Report: Come On Blount, We Kneed You...

By:  Zach Jacobson

Bad puns aside, Blount was really the largest fantasy injury this week (I am sorry for Texans fans, but I don't do IDP).  Man I really hate these introductions, so we might as well roll up our pant legs and wade right in.

The Injuries

LeGarrette Blount:  As you might've guessed from the awful, awful title, Blount damaged his knee.  He's expected to miss week 6, and with players on byes this could really kill your fantasy teams chances this weekend.  I might add Earnest Graham in a deep league, but apparently Kregg Lumpkin (WHO!) could get most of the carries.  It's really a terrible situation and there has to be better options on waivers.

Julio Jones:  Seems like he'll miss next week as well.  I really don't think it helps Tony Gonzalez or Roddy White (though White's a monster and more targets could mean more production for him...regardless of coverage), but the real winner here is Harry Douglas.  His moments have been few and far between so far this season, but with defenses tightening up on White and Gonzo, holes could open up for Douglas.

Joseph Addai:  Can you go just one year without getting hurt Joseph Addai!  You're allowed to miss a few games here and there if your name is Steven Jackson, but when you are only a pretty good back whose goal was to simply open up the passing game for Manning, you can't be missing games every single season in your career [Editor's Note: Addai has been injured every single year of his career, except his rookie year!].  His injury really opens up possibilities for a guy I already stashed on all my fantasy benches...Delone Carter.  Carter's bad performance in week 5 was saved by a touchdown, but with Addai hurt you could see Carter getting 10+ carries a game, including the goal line ones.  Donald Brown has all but worn out his welcome in Indianapolis, and Carter has a great chance to gain the majority of the carries.

The Replacements

Good To Go:  Delone Carter
Stay AWAY:  Earnest Graham, Kregg Lumpkin
Caught in the Middle:  Harry Douglas

Let Them Preach: Week 5

by: Christian Hardy

Week five has breezed right by us and it certainly didn’t live up to my expectations; but hey, it was football, and football is good. I mean, there was Tebow tantrum in Denver,  a Jackson explosion in Buffalo, and a Buccaneers implosion. Sounds like it was a pretty good week, but it was no Week 4, or even Week 3 for that matter. Enough of this, let’s get to the good stuff: all of the things I learned in week five of the 2011 NFL season.

Tennessee Titans @ Pittsburgh Steelers
1. The Steelers know how to play at home: they have won five of their last six home games. The Terrible Towel really is terrible, for their opponents.
2. Hines Ward! Heath Miller! Fantasy zombies! The two of these guys had three touchdowns combined in Sunday’s game against the Titans? Do I buy it? Half way. I think Heath Miller (one touchdown on three receptions) deserves a roster spot, but I need to see more from Hines Ward (two touchdowns along with seven catches).
3. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Jonathan Dwyer steals the number two spot in Pittsburgh when Mendenhall and Redman are healthy. He was extremely explosive on Sunday (11 for 107) and he burst through the holes like Adrian Peterson (did I take that too far? Oh well.). Of course, Dwyer's 76 yard run helped his stats, but hey, that's what happens when you find and then burst through the hole.

Philadelphia Eagles @ Buffalo Bills
1. The Eagles have one of the best wide receiver corps in the National Football League: Jackson is the big play guy that is going to take the safety deep, Jeremy Maclin is the dependable guy that can also run the sidelines, and Avant is the possession receiver who is going to stay in the middle of the field.
2. Fred Jackson isn't a fluke. He is running like a mad man right now (3rd in the league) and who would of expected this. The Bills offense is at it's peak, and I'm honestly wondering who can stop them right now. Only time will tell.
3. The Lions aren't the "Dream Team"; only the 2008 Lions would dream of being 1-4.

New Orleans Saints @ Carolina Panthers
1. At this point. Darren Sproles is one of the best running backs to have on your fantasy team. Consistency is everything at this point in the season, and consistency is Darren Sproles. He has put up nine points or more in every game this season: it doesn't get more consistent than that. Sproles is a must start in all formats right now.
2. While Sproles has been showing up, Jimmy Graham, one of my favorite stories in football, is doing it through the air. He is the top fantasy tight end right now, and who didn't see this coming? He was everyone's fantasy sleeper (including me).
3. The Panthers are legit, but they have to learn to play all four quarters. They can't start slow or finish the game sloppy on either side of the ball. Despite only one check in the "win" column, I think the Panthers are going to compete this year, but I don' think they climb back over .500.

Oakland Raiders @ Houston Texans
1. Darrius Heyward-Bey really made Al Davis look good, as he went for seven catches, 99 yards and a touch: not too shabby. While others aren't jumping on the bandwagon, I am on, and I have been on for the ride. I picked this guy up in multiple leagues in week one, and he is still doing. Pick up Darrius Heyward-Bey while you still can.
2. I was way of with my Matt Schaub, and I greatly over-estimated the Raiders pass defense. Schaub is going to do it with or without Andre Johnson.
3. Everyone was asking the question, "Who is going to replace Andre Johnson?" The only two people that I know were right were The Fantasy Football Guys and this guy. It was Kevin Walter; not Owen Daniels (he had a good game here too), not Jacoby Jones; just Kevin Walter on his way to a 15 point fantasy day.

Kansas City Chiefs @ Indianapolis Colts
I'm Baaack!
1. Todd Haley is a man of his word, that is for sure. After saying earlier in the week that Jackie Battle would get more work for the Chiefs, he got 19 carries and ran with it for 119 yards, which was half of the team's carries. Sounds like a good pick up to me, and it also sounds like time to drop Dexter McCluster.
2. Like I have said in weeks past, Dwayne Bowe, even with the Chiefs' struggles, is going to perform on a week to week basis. He is a touchdown machine again this year (call him "Bumblebee") with four touchdowns in the last four games. How impressive is that? Now let's take this a step further: do you selll high on Dwayne Bowe? I am selling high for the right price. He has played two very weak pass defenses, and when Matt Cassel gets into a tougher matchup, he is going to struggle. If I own Dwayne Bowe, I am selling high.
 3. I was right! Pierre Garcon is this master athlete! Him and Curtis Painter are hooking up non-stop during the game. It is almost unbelievable. Every time Painter completes a pass I feel like there is a number 85 on his back, and I'm not talking about Ochocinco. Whatever you have to do, go get Pierre Garcon this week if he is available. With all of that, Austin Collie is a drop, and to be honest, Dallas Clark is a drop too: I approve of both of those moves, but drop Clark with cation.

Cincinnati Bengals @ Jacksonville Jaguars
1. AJ Green continues to be Andy Dalton's favorite targets, but Jermaine Gresham is the one who stood out to me. Gresham now has a touchdown in each of his last two games, as well as another touchdown in week one.
2. My Cedric Benson love didn't pay off, and he did very little with his carries (24 for 53). The Jaguars front is better than most people think, but if these running backs can get in the open they are going to have a huge run. Unfortunately, Cedric Benson never got that, and he finished with a very disappointing game, especially for me who was so high on him.
3. Although I hate to admit it, the Bengals defense is quite potent. They have only allowed more than 300 yards of total offense to their opponent one time this year (Broncos, 318 yards).

Arizona Cardinals @ Minnesota Vikings
1. The Vikings can play in the second half! They just need 28 points in the first quarter to do it!
2. Emerging from those 28 points was Adrian Peterson: he is a man. Peterson scored three (yes, three) touchdowns in one quarter. I think he quieted all of his haters for now.
3. Kevin Kolb is in the gutters right now. He has hit an all-time low, and he isn't getting anything done; you can feel free to drop him from your fantasy team at any time. The Cardinals are really resorting to Beanie Wells and the run game and since week one, Kevin Kolb has looked absolutely terrible. In the last three weeks combined his has 20 fantasy points combined. There are 31 quarterbacks I would rather have than Kevin Kolb at this point.

Seattle Seahawks @ New York Giants
1. Doug Baldwin isn't going away. The Seahawks' quarterbacks seem to love to throw this guy, and they continue to find him. In this game he went for 136 on eight catches and a touchdown.
2. There is not doubt that Victor Cruz has replaced Mario Manningham, just like I thought he would. The Giants and Eli Manning have made it very clear that Cruz is the guy.
3. As Matthew Berry and I have preached and preached on, the Seahawks run defense is better than most people think, and it was seen here against Ahmad Bradshaw who should of has a great game with Jacobs out. Bradshaw did everything but that with only 2.8 yards per carry in this game, and he finished with a mediocre game.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ San Francisco 49ers
1. Alex Smith is playing top notch right now. He continues to put up above-par fantasy numbers, and in this game he continued that streak as he went 11/19 with 170 yards and three touchdowns--yes, Alex Smith. He is the reason that the Niners are winning at this point. Smith continues to take care of the ball: he has only thrown one interception this year, and that was his only turnover of this year.
2. Frank Gore, when he gets those legs churning, is one of the most brilliant running backs in the NFL. He is one of the most dynamic backs; he is agile, yet he can still truck over defenders. He is a great pass blocker, but he can also catch a ball or two in the flat. Even with all of the injuries he has had, he is still an elite running back, and a dynamic one at that.
3. Even though I already knew this, I thought I would mention that the 49ers have a more than impressive run defense. They continue to shut guys down, and in this game the held the red hot LeGarrette Blount to only 3.4 yards per carry, and they have allowed only 3.6 yards per
carry on the year.

San Diego Chargers @ Denver Broncos
1.How do you have 40% completion percentage (4 0f 10 complete) and still have a passer rating of over 100? You have to be the biggest, the baddest, you have to be the Tim Tebow. When Orton had nothing going for him, Tebow stepped up and took advantage of his opportunity. Enough said: Tebow is my pickup the week, considering that he can run the ball and he is probably going to be the Broncos' new goal line back.
2. Even before Mike Tolbert's in this game, we all knew who the head guy in the backfield for the Chargers is: that'd be Ryan Matthews. He is running as good as any other back in the NFL right now and he ran the ball 24 time (!) for 125 yards but he did not find the endzone. I really like Matthews going forward, and love him from a dynasty league standpoint.
3. McGahee is the guy in Denver, and Moreno is absolutely non-existent in the run game. He had no carries in this game, and only two carries in his last two. The only reason he deserves a roster spot right now is because he found the endzone in this game. If he disappears next game too, then you might as well free up a roster spot.

New York Jets @ New England Patriots
1. BenJarvus Green-Ellis appears to be the guy; he had 27 carries in this one, and he has been getting the majority of the carries. Ridley is definitely still worth a roster spot, but right now he is just a handcuff, and nothing more.
2. I have said this before, but Ladanian Tomlinson is completely non-existant. Shonn Greene has taken over the role as the runningback with 21 carries in this game. The best you are going to get out of Ladanian Tomlinson is abround 50 receiving yards and maybe 50 yards rushing, but it is very possible that he could explode at any given time, just a heads up.
3. You know that Wes Welker guy? Yeah, he is kinda good. I mean, he's the only fugitive of "Revis Island", he has to be a beast. But realistically speaking: Welker is poised for the most receptions and yards ever in a single season by a wide receiver. What do you have to say about his knee now?
Well Done Sir!

Green Bay Packers @ Atlanta Falcons
1. There is not one running back you want on your fantasy team from the Packers. Neither James Starks or Ryan Grant is getting enough work to really have an impact. For each of them you are banking on a touchdown, but Mr.Rodgers takes care of that.
2. James Jones! Another fantasy zombie! He was finally revived after getting seven targets and five of them coming as catches, including a 70 yard bomb for a touchdown. Not that he has any huge value yet, but keep your eye on this guy.
3. I don't put any value in this game for Julio Jones. He injured the hamstring late, and he has had two huge games before this. I don't think this means anything for Julio Jones, sometimes you just have one of those games.

Chicago Bears @ Detroit Lions
1. Calvin Johnson is a machine! Nine touchdowns in five games!? That is the most any receiver in the history of the NFL has scored in that span! It's absolutely incredible, and if you have Calvin Johnson on your fantasy team then I'm sure you are doing well.
2. Like I said last week, when Matt Forte gets the touches he deserves he is going to take them and run with them. In this game he had 22 carries for 116 yards. In his last two games, Matt Forte has averaged 6.83 yards per carry. That's how you run the football. And he wasn't playing just any run defense..he has had to run against the Panthers and the Lions: two decent run defenses. That only makes it more impressive.
3. Jahvid Best isn't the kind of running back you want on your fantasy lineup. He can easily drop a huge goose egg, or he can explode that one time that you decide to put him on your bench. His average yards per carry was just over three before the 88 yard touchdown run. I know you have to include the huge run into his average, but he isn't going to do that every game and that means that you are really depending on that touchedown.

Those would be the review of every game this week, all thirteen of them. This season couldn't get much better, it has truly been one of the most exciting and odd seasons since I have ever seen this sport. The Stock Report: Week 5

By: Brady

The Stock Report:

A little recap from the past two weeks and the highlights of my Stock Report, keeping myself accountable.

-The first issue of TSR included buys of Eric Decker and Beanie Wells.  Both players had big time weeks this past week.  Beanie with 3TDs and Decker with 2TDs.  I still like both players going forward, especially Beanie.

-My sells included Ryan Grant (injured) and the Carolina duo of Newton and Smith. Newton and Smith struggled mightily after I wrote that, but bounced back last week.I reiterate my concerns with Carolina’s offense this week.

-Last week my buys included Denarius Moore (1TD), Chris Johnson (first time over 100 yards) and Philip Rivers (300+, TD).

-I had sells on Cruz, who continued to play well as Manningham recovers, Donald Driver (who snagged a TD but very little production), and Roddy White who had 78 yards.

I’ve been pleased with my predictions so far, and hope it continues this week.  Remember that these predictions are not necessarily based on this week alone, they are usually rooted in my thoughts for the course of the season.  Enjoy.

Buy -Brandon LaFell – LaFell is a part of the surprisingly explosive Carolina Panthers passing attack, lead by Cameron Newton.  Full disclosure, I still do not believe that Cam will be able to continue to play at this level, but I think  if he does maintain some semblance of his recent play, Steve Smith will have coverages rolled his way.  Smith is still a downfield threat even though he has been around the league for some time now.  His presence stretching defenses deeper should force Cam Newton to look to his short and intermediate routes; likely meaning more targets and subsequently more catches for LaFell and tight end Greg Olsen.  Buy on LaFell cheap and monitor the situation in the coming weeks.

Buy – Reggie Wayne – This may come as a bit of a surprise that I am going to suggest anyone in the Colts offense – but I think Wayne is going to get back to a solid level of production.  I liked some of the things I saw from Curtis Painter and I think he will begin to sync well with Wayne as the weeks progress.  Garcon blew up a bit last week on a couple big plays, but I think those breakout plays will be coming from Wayne soon.  I do not expect Dallas Clark to be very big in the offense as he will have to stay in and block more for a young QB and a battered O-line; so the WRs will get the looks and Wayne is Painter’s best security blanket.  Buy Wayne low from someone who has been frustrated with having to watch the Colts offense and their shaky start.

Buy – Daniel Thomas - For someone who is unproven and on a bye; I think you might be able to make a move on a player with a lot of upside going forward.  Thomas has been hampered by a hamstring issue and may have lost his QB for the season.  I would expect the Dolphins to focus their offense around Thomas as they return from the bye week.  It was made clear again this past week when Thomas was out, that the Dolphins have no intentions of having Bush be an every down back or even feed him goal line carries. Thomas will be in line for a boatload of carries and the crucial goal line carries. If you think someone in your league has a short-term memory and is only recalling his nagging injury and bye week — see if you can snag him cheap.

HOLD – Jeremy Maclin - Maclin has been up and down this season, but I still am a believer.  He is not producing where he should be, but much of this Eagles team is just a little off.  I expect them to get to a level where they should be.  Regardless, it should be their defense that comes around last — which may mean there will be a serious honous on the offense to open up like we saw this past week with Vick totaling over 400+ yards.  I really believe that Maclin is the better true receiver out of Maclin and Jackson, and expect J Mac to keep getting looks to get into the end zone.  If you have Maclin, keep holding him as his true value (shoutout to Bob Vila) should come to fruition soon.

SELL – Mike Tolbert - This is a tough call because Tolbert will remain the threat on the goal line. He has also shown to be a solid receiver out of the backfield.  He is just not quite as productive between the twenties as Ryan Mathews is.  I think the workload is going to see a slow shift away from Tolbert and to Mathews, more than it already has.  If you have Tolbert as your 3rd back on your squad, see if someone desperate for some RB productive will give up a bit too much for him and take advantage of that opportunity.

SELL – Eli Manning - Eli has been playing at a high level this year, at least statisically.  He has some play makers on the edges doing big things for him and an always solid run game.  I think that if you have Eli on your bench as a possible QB2; you may want to look at this as an opportunity to sell Eli to a QB needy squad in your league. I simply do not see the yardage production remaining at this level and I would expect the turnovers to increase back to normal Eli-esque levels.

SELL – Brandon Marshall - The mercurial Brandon Marshall may not like the unrest at the QB spot in Miami. He has stayed relatively quiet on and off the field lately, but I think that may change soon as the struggling Dolphins will likely continue to
struggle.  I would expect Marshall to run into some issues producing — especially as there may be a looming coaching change coming.  Marshall still has the tools to get it done, and has over 300+ yards this year which is respectible.  I could easily see a problem coming down the road though, and I think you may want to move Marshal before his stock begins to tumble.

SPECULATIVE PLAY:
BUY-Josh Morgan - Morgan was on serious managers radars last year; and as the 49ers offense begins to open up some, I think he should be back on the radar.  Morgan has the physical tools and solid hands … well, definitely better hands than Braylon Edwards, but even Jim Abbott has better hands than BrayBray.  Morgan could be the beneficiary of Braylon’s injuries and Alex Smith gaining some confidence.  If Crabtree is no longer on waiver wires in your league, look to Morgan to stash on your bench for a couple weeks or as a bye week fill in.

Week 5 Injury Report: Big Ben Does It Again

By: Zach Jacobson

No, I'm not talking about Ben forcing a young lady into an unpleasant situation, I'm talking about him disappointing fantasy owners everywhere.  He's not the only player that went down this weekend.  Let's catch you up.

The Injuries

Ben Roethlisberger:  Before this week Roethlisberger was the 25th QB (ESPN standard scoring), and his measly 7 points in week 4 didn't help.  Injuring his ankle on the Steeler's final drive of the game, Roethlisberger walked out of the locker room afterward on crutches with the foot in a protective boot.  He really wasn't startable before, but this injury puts his week 5 status in question.  Charlie Batch would probably get the nod next weekend if Big Ben can't play, but unless you're really struggling at QB you should have better options.

Rashard Mendenhall: Ahh, the man with the fish eyes.  I'm sorry Steeler fans, that was rude, but to be fair your team is going to miss the playoffs.  Mendy tweaked his hamstring, and if we've learned anything this season it's that hamstring injuries can be tricky (see Foster, Arian).  The fortunate news is that the way Mendenhall has been playing, backup Isaac Redman can't be any worse for your fantasy team.  With a flow of injuries and bye weeks right now Redman is looking like a viable flex option.

Danny Woodhead:  My personal favorite of this bunch, Woodhead's injury opens up limitless possibilities for my man Stevan Ridley.  Right now Danny W. is listed as week-to-week, and with how unimpressive Green-Ellis is Ridley may become the pickup of the week.  It wouldn't be hard to imagine him as the Patriots leading rusher this season.

Andre Johnson:  A.J. felt left out so he decided to injure his hammy as well.  The difference is that Johnson will miss 3+ weeks, and his injury opens up more possibilities.  I think this makes Jacoby Jones a must add for your bench, and we could see Owen Daniels get more involved as well.  I saw Ben Tate was being dropped in some leagues after Foster's return, but the lack of a big target could lead to more carries for both runningbacks.

The Replacements

Good to Go:  Isaac Redman, Stevan Ridley, Jacoby Jones, Ben Tate
Stay AWAY:  Charlie Batch

Let Them Preach: Week 4

By: Christian Hardy

What did you think? Week four of the NFL season was pretty great. I mean, in the 1:00 games it was comeback galore, in the afternoon games it was your fantasy team lighting up your opponent…or your opponent lighting up the scoreboard. Either way, it was a great week of football, just like the first three were. But this isn't about your fantasy team, it’s all about what I learned from every game in week four. So what do you say? Let’s get this show on the road.

Detroit Lions @ Dallas Cowboys
1. They should make a movie with the title “Calvin Johnson: The Unstoppable”.
2. Romo isn’t as bad as others are making him, and I am going to write an article on this later in the week.
3. Cowboys’ found their number three wide receiver, you’ve heard his name before: Laurent Robinson.

Carolina Panthers @ Chicago Bears
1. Cam Newton is going to find holes in your defense and expose them all day long.
2. Matt Forte is a top five running back in the NFL is he gets the carries he deserves.
3. Mike Martz picks one thing to do and he does it over and over. He can’t run a balanced offense.

Tennessee Titans @ Cleveland Browns
1. Chris Johnson is alive!
2. Still don’t know who will benefit the most from Kenny Britt injury with Hasselback going only 10 for 20.
3. One of these days, Greg Little is going to break through. He has been getting more and more work every week.

Washington Redskins @ St.Louis Rams
1. Well, we have another Shanahan backfield. Now we know he was serious about sitting Tim Hightower.
2. Sam Bradford is not the same as last year, and I don’t understand why to be honest.
3. Maybe not something I learned, but I think Helu is going to be one of the best change of pace backs in the NFL…if that means anything to you.

Minnesota Vikings @ Kansas City Chiefs
1. Like I said last week, and I’m going to repeat it; Dwayne Bowe is still going to produce, no matter how bad this team looks.
2. Harvin is going to be a flex play on most weeks, and he is the ideal flex play. Going to get you points, but he can easily light it up and get you a ton of points.
3. I don’t see why people are pondering about Ponder. If I was Leslie Frazier, despite being winless, there is no way I am handing the ball over to that kid. Atleast McNabb is putting points on the board. It could be worse. You could be the Dolphins!

Buffalo Bills @ Cincinnati Bengals
1. What?! A defense can actually stop the Bills? They can stop the man from Harvard!? How!
2. AJ Green was better than Julio Jones…until the afternoon games…
3. Bengals defense isn’t all that bad, but to be completely honest, I couldn’t name five starters on that defense.

Pittsburgh Steelers @ Houston Texans
1. Matthew Berry was right: the Steelers can’t stop the run up the middle right now.
2. The Steelers don’t look like a playoff team right now. They are not playing good football.
3. You know that ‘anti-awesomeness’ stuff that Arian Foster had…yeah, it’s gone. Foster is awesome.

New Orleans Saints @ Jacksonville Jaguars
1. Jimmy Graham:  the elite tight end. I’m not sure if Brees is making this kid, or Jimmy Graham is just a beast. It’s a little of both I think.
2. Mike Thomas is going to be there, and whether you like it or not, Blaine Gabbert loves the kid.
3. Mark Ingram is going to dictate the carries for the Saints. This is the second game in a row now.

San Francisco 49ers @ Philadelphia Eagles
1. On almost every drive I saw, the Philadelphia Eagles looked they had one of the worst defense in the NFL. And even though I am a Cowboys fan, I mean it.
2. Frank Gore! He can run the ball!
3. Nnamdi looks really bad, in fact, the Eagles secondary looked bad. And they weren’t playing Tom Brady. They were facing Alex Smith.

Atlanta Falcons @ Seattle Seahawks
1. Julio Jones > AJ Green. Both are going to be phenomenal in this league though.
2. Michael Turner is still catching passes.
3. The Seahawks will never try a 61 yard field goal again, that’s for sure.

New York Giants @ Arizona Cardinals
1. You should disregard your stud player missing practice. I mean, just look at Hakeem Nicks.
2. I guessed it last week, but now it might be a reality: Victor Cruz could take Mario Manningham’s spot.
3. Well, I was wrong on Beanie Wells. Really, really wrong.

Miami Dolphins @ San Diego Chargers
1. Matt Moore is still Matt Moore.
2. The Dolphins don’t trust Reggie Bush. That’s for sure.
3. I was asking myself,”Who the heck is going to get the goal line carries for this team?” Still no answer.

New England Patriots @ Oakland Raiders
1. This Wes Welker guy, yeah, the white one, he is pretty good.
2. Belichick loves his new rookie Stevan Ridley. Well, I mean if you are getting scouted by Bill Belichick then you know you are a good football player.
3. Darius Heyward-Bey is relevant. Oops! Did I just let that roll right off of my tongue? Oh well…

Denver Broncos @ Green Bay Packers
1. The people who chant, “TEBOW! TEBOW! TEBOW!” are really frustrating, and 90% of them don’t know what they are talking about.
2. The Packers are really good, oh wait, I already knew that…
3.  McGahee, no doubt, is going to be the main guy for the Broncos.

New York Jets @ Baltimore Ravens
1. This was one of the oddest football games I have ever seen; special teams and defense galore.
2. Ray Rice is a stud. I just wanted to verify.
3. I was right about the QBS, Boldin, and Holmes in this game.

Indianapolis Colts @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
1. Mike Williams being out of bounds on the 60 yard touchdown was such a heartbreak.
2. Pierre Garcon and Curtis Painter have some sort of secret love story. Eight targets? Two touchdowns on two catches? What a stud.
3. Week one was a fluke for LeGarrette Blount.

Well, that's all for me, at least for now. That Romo piece that I mentioned earlier will be on ReclinerQB.com on Wednesday. As for the blog; Gabe's pickup article is coming soon and Zach's injury piece is going to be posted on Wednesday. Hope you guys all got a win this week.
